About
What is Run to End Poverty?
Run to End Poverty is a team of compassionate runners united for a common cause – to bring an end to extreme poverty in Africa. Since 2007, runners across Canada and Africa have run together to raise awareness about extreme poverty, and to build support for Engineers Without Borders’ (EWB) development efforts in Africa. In just two years the team has grown with races now planned in Vancouver, Montreal, Waterloo, Calgary and Ottawa!
Run to End Poverty provides team members with the opportunity to train together, to learn together, and to race together within local high-profile running races. Through coaching and training workshops and weekly group runs, beginners can build a strong base while experienced runners can improve their abilities and aim for their personal best!
The Run to End Poverty team is unique in that each running event is partnered with a run in developing communities across Africa, where EWB is working hard to build local capacity and create positive change. Through this connection, Canadians can learn more about international development and the people whose lives are changed by organizations like Engineers Without Borders (Canada). By raising awareness through high-profile local races and through the people we touch during fundraising activities, we hope to build stronger support for Canadian international development initiatives.
You don’t have to be a member of Engineers Without Borders to get involved – all runners are welcome!
Join the team today and help us make strides towards ending extreme poverty in Africa!
How do I join?
Simply click ‘Join the Team’ in the right sidebar to select a race in your city to join, and to build your personal profile and fundraising webpage.
Team members are strongly encouraged to set a fundraising goal. All fundraisers will receive a quick-dry Run To End Poverty Running shirt, and a race registration discount in most cities. All fundraising will occur online using EWB’s secure donation website, with complete tracking of your progress on your own Run to End Poverty profile webpage.
Team members will receive regular email updates regarding group runs, training and coaching sessions, and other events.
Team members will have to cover their own registration fees to the race (see the TEAMS page for your city to learn more), however the value of being a part of the team more than offsets the cost of registration! We are working to get team member discounts for the races as the team grows.
